Grand Oriental Hotel Restoration

Ilot Colombo collaborated with Nu Studio to bring Grand Oriental Hotel's splendour back.
Located in Colombo historical center, the Grand Oriental Hotel was built in 1837. Ilot Colombo proudly participated to its restoration. The tile manufacturer replicated bespoke cement tiles for the walkway surrounding the heritage building and supplied another design from the Classic Collection for the bar of the hotel. The original British tiles in the walkway were too damaged by the years and harsh tropical weather conditions to remain. Ilot Colombo replicated the pattern and matched the colours of the original tiles in order to bring Grand Oriental Hotel's splendour back. Architects Nuwan Dias and Dayantha Siriwardene from Nu Studio architecture firm also used Paris cement tiles for the bar. Paris classic and timeless design in black and white nicely matches the colonial chic style of the heritage hotel and gives depth to the bar shelves.
